Its plot repeats the stamped story, which was retold by many other cartoons, often of poor quality. There is the most ordinary, undistinguished hero who accidentally becomes someone very important; there is a villain who wants to harm the world of the hero for some petty naive reason, and often simply because; there is a rival of the hero - a tough macho who despises him, but is forced to cooperate with him; there is a girl for salvation and romance and further down the list. Characters of heroes and events happening to them are simple and predictable. It’s one of those stories you want to watch, even if you know how it ends. And it makes such a visual design, namely the world in which the plot unfolds.
The world and its strange inhabitants are divided into day and night. The moon and the sun are dragged around the world by a pair of huge creatures, day residents, which are hot in the literal sense of the word macho, consist of stone, nocturnal resemble plants and bring dreams to those who sleep at night. This world lives by its own rules. The moon here can be tied to a rope like a balloon, the burning sun blow out, the wax girl can turn into a statue in the cold night and thaw at dawn, and the wise old man can release buds and bloom. All his oddities seem natural and logical, as in a cozy magical dream, from which you do not want to get out.
Visually, it resembles a cross between Avatar and the magical worlds of Hayao Miyazaki. The thought of the first comes from the cold world of night, inhabited by blue creatures and luminous plants. The second is reminiscent of the atmosphere of magic reigning in the cartoon. In terms of 3D graphics, part of the cartoon is performed flawlessly, but the inclusions of two-dimensional animation are inferior in quality to everything else. Based on the story explanation of this transition, two-dimensional animation should be even crazier, even more magical, but on the contrary it looks pale, modest and somewhat unfinished.
In any case, the cartoon is very beautiful, bold and unusual for Western cinema, which prefers the usual forms of people or animals. Thanks to its magnificent design, it makes you worry and admire, even though its plot has been retold more than once.
